Whether you surf or just like the vibe of chill beaches and watching the curl come in from the Pacific Ocean, I think you’re gonna love this adventure. The Oaxacan Coastline features some of the world's best waves and we’ve lined up a spot that even seasoned Mexican visitors have never been to. Puerto Escondido, Chacahua Island (we take a ferry across the lagoon to get there), playa tierra blanca, Mazunte… just mind-blowing beaches and surf. On the way back we take the old road back for twisty riding and stay in the magical town of San Jose del Pacifico where we’ll participate in a Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony before we return to the culinary capital of Mexico, Oaxacan City. We have small family owned hotels for every stop and you'll have enough time off the bike to really enjoy the beaches, restaurants, and have time to wander on your own. You’ll love this vibe.

If You Need To Cancel
Mexico by Moto understands that plans change and circumstances don’t always work out for you to take a vacation when you wish, especially when we’re planning months or even a year into the future. We’re also a very lean company that works with smaller family owned hotels, and vendors in Mexico, as such when we put rooms, equipment, or other services on hold and then cancel with them, we often need to pay them, especially if it's very close to the date of travel. Saying all this, we have worked out with them what is fair, and what would be the optimal time to provide you with a 100% refund. We appreciate your understanding.
For our tours that run January through April.
If you cancel before December 1st, we refund 100% minus the $500 initial deposit we ask for.
If you cancel after December 1st, but more than 30 days before you travel it will cost 50% of the total price for your trip.
If you cancel within 30 days of your tour date you will not receive a refund.
All cancellation requests must be in writing via email to info@mexicobymoto.com
If Mexico by Moto Needs to Cancel
Planning for the future includes thinking about weather patterns, and other things that fall into the category of force majeure. We cannot predict if hurricanes, earthquakes, or other force majeure situations might affect our tour destinations before we travel. So we have some guidelines to help you understand how we handle these types of situations. We appreciate your understanding.
Force Majeure

Day One Saturday January 2, 2027
Oaxaca City, known as Oaxaca de Juarez, is a cultural capital of Mexico. Known for art and food, this makes a great jumping in point for our trip. Once you arrive at our hotel, you can throw down your gear and take a walk over to the Zocalo, or hop in a cab and go up to Monte Alban Pyramid. We'll meet for dinner back at the hotel for a get-to-know-each-other and talk about the week ahead. Heads up... you'll be offered a shot of mezcal at check-in!
Day Two January 3
We'll take the new road out to the Pacific Coast, stopping along the way to make any adjustments to gear or bikes. Our destination for the night is Puerto Escodido, Mexico's surf capital. We'll get in early enough to spend some time in Puerto to shop, hang out, have a drink. Just before sunset we'll meet up at the hotel and head down to the Bacoccho Beach for the baby turtle release. After, you can hit one of the many fabulous restaurants, mezcal bars, or go dancing. It's a surf town, so get ready for an early morning if you want to catch a set on one of several surf spots nearby at Punta Zicatela or Playa Carrizalillo.
Day Three January 4
If you get up early, you can head over to Playa Carrizalillo, or la Punta Zicatella for an early session before we have breakfast and head up the coast. This will be an easy morning and our ride won't be too crazy, until we put the bikes and the chase van on the barge that will take us across the lagoon to Isla Chacahau. This spot is not on any tourist maps, but is a favorite for folks in the surf community. It reminds me of how Puerto Escondido felt 35 years ago. Don't surf? So what, come anyway! This place is perfect to swim, chill, drink, swing in a hammock. I love this place. Anyway you spend your time here, you're gonna make some incredible memories.
Day Four January 5
Beach day on the island and what can I say... by now you'll start wondering why you haven't been here before and might ask why would you ever leave. I promise that there's more sunsets, beaches, and incredible food down the road. But this day, you'll get to stay right here on Isla Chacahua eating fresh food, drinking something cold, and enjoy the ocean outside our front door. We're staying right on the beach. If you don't surf, trust me... there's plenty of fun just chilling out here.
Day 5 January 6
After breakfast we'll load up our gear in the chase van, ride down to the ferry and make our way down the coast to Mauzunte. We'll stop in Punta Zicatella for lunch in a sandy palapa bar, and if you want, maybe take a dip. The road down to Mazunte will be quick, and we'll make it in time to take in the sunset at Rinconcito, a favorite point overlooking the ocean. Town will be more lively than the island, so take in the night and have dinner at the hotel or one of the many restaurants.
Day 6 January 7
We've enjoyed the coast for a few days and now is our time to take the old road back into the Sierras for some of the best twisty mountain riding you can imagine. We'll climb about 7000 feet from the ocean and take about a thousand curves on our way to the top. There's a few vistas that allow us to see the ocean, even after riding for several hours. This is one of my favorite rides in a country filled with spectacular rides. After we settle in, there's a special evening planned for us. Our hotel has a Tezmecal built into the side of the mountain, and we've arranged for a Shaman who will guide us through a sweat lodge ceremony with traditional herbs, cacao, teas, honey scrubs, and cold plunges. It's an incredible journey, and motorcycles get you here.
Day Seven January 8
After a cozy night by the fire in your mountain cabin, we'll make our way back to Oaxaca City. We have a hotel waiting for you back in the heart of the city. We recommend you spend the night and make your travel plans for the next day so we can go on a street food tour, hitting the many stalls around the market. Did I mention that Oaxaca is the home to about 300 different types of mole? I had squash blossoms in a red mole that changed my life back in 1993, and last year I was shown a new food cart with the best carnitas I could have ever imagined. This town loves food. Maybe over a Tlayuda or a Mezcal we can talk about your next adventure with Mexcio by Moto.
